College 101 (week 7)
College. Let us talk about it for a moment. I chose to go back to college, stop working, be a SAHM, while pursuing my degree in Nursing. So…here I am. Its past midnight and I am finally writing up my last blog for the week. After chasing a 5 year old all day, planning for a baby shower, cleaning my home, and well the normal daily tasks, I have about 10 whole minutes to sit down and actually do my homework. People ask me when I am “free”…I tell them May of 2020 (my intended graduation) ha.
I can complain about college and how tired I am from the endless amount of homework and studying, but also I have to love the way it has pushed me to become more. I am more of a person, more of a mom, and more of just me. I have learned so much more, experienced more, and I am actually accomplishing a goal I set out to do nearly 10 years ago.
I had a teacher many years ago who particularly will always stand out to me. She was one of the professors who would never want to see her student fail or give up, so she gave any and all opportunity to succeed. I first had her my first year of college, and she was the only class I aced that whole year. Fast forward, about 8 years later I took two more classes with her, and wouldn’t you know it, they are two of the hardest classes you can take(in my opinion). I early on struggled, but I knew she was the teacher to take. She taught me how to actually understand a course, and the proper way to prepare for exams, which led me to make presidents list carrying 18 credits. I couldn’t have made it without her support.
Each student will have their own opinions on college. Some are good, some….not so much. My first few years were spent trying to socialize and “be cool” by not actually going to class but wasting money and failing. I know I am not the only student to do this. My advice, if you’re not ready, don’t do it. You wont be doing yourself any favors. When you are ready, you will know.
